Alice June (Lorah) Shollenberger

June 7, 1932 ~ November 26, 2021 (age 89)

Alice June (Lorah) Shollenberger, 89, of Mohrsville, passed away during the early morning hours of Friday, November 26, 2021 at the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. Alice was the wife of Mervin J. Shollenberger with whom she enjoyed 62 years of marriage until his death December 29, 2016.

Alice is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey Shollenberger, husband of Penny, and Dennis Shollenberger, husband of Kathy; five grandchildren, Michelle, wife of Edward Maloney; Yvonne, wife of Casey Corwin; Ashley Shollenberger; Justin Shollenberger, partner of Kristen Bortz; Amber, wife of Steven Messersmith, Jr.; and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Alsace Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel V. O. and Carrie (Rothenberger) Lorah. Alice attended Centre School and supported operations on her father’s family dairy farm. Alice married Mervin Shollenberger on July 21, 1954. After her father’s death in 1970, Alice and Mervin assumed working operations for the family farm. In addition to farm work, Alice was active in her local community. She worked in the textile industry as a seamstress and served as shop steward/chairwoman for the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU). Alice was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Hamburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Alice is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored spending time with her grandchildren - educating them about critical agricultural skills, taking “nature walks” around the farm, and teaching them how to cook and bake homemade, Pennsylvania Dutch foods and treats. Alice was an avid supporter of Berks County 4-H Clubs, assisting her grandchildren at local fairs and livestock shows and especially participating in bake sales and other fundraisers. A great prankster, Alice will be remembered for her wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humor and easy laugh.

Alice will be very much missed by her family and her community. In line with her wishes, there will be no formal service for Alice, but she will be cremated and her ashes mixed with her husband’s.
