Allen Coller Obituary

Allen W. Coller was born in Reading on March 7, 1933. After attending school in Ft. Worth, Texas to learn blacksmithing and horseshoeing, he had a successful career shoeing horses in Berks County.

He achieved his life’s dream as a cowboy and farrier on a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. After retiring from horseshoeing, he enjoyed a number of years as owner and chef at the popular restaurant Big Al’s Pizza and Sandwiches in Leesport.

Allen was a man of many talents, including riding horses, cooking, archery hunting, fishing, singing, and telling jokes. He was well-known among his friends for hosting holiday picnics featuring his Coney Island hotdogs. Allen was a movie lover and especially enjoyed Westerns starring John Wayne and epics with Errol Flynn.

He had a daughter and two stepdaughters. He enjoyed 22 extra years of life after receiving a heart transplant at Temple Hospital. He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on July 9, 2021. Allen will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
