Andrew Marrella Obituary

Andrew Frank Marrella, 79, of Reading, died January 19, 2021 at Penn State Health – St. Joseph, Bern Township.

Born on July 24, 1941, He was the only child of the late Angelo and Antoinetta (Sedoti) Marrella.

A 1959 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he was employed by the former American Casualty Insurance Company from 1959 till 1965. He held multiple community positions including Lower Alsace Township Building Inspector & Zoning Officer, St Catherine’s Parish club president and Chairman of the Catholic Charities Drive. He also completed the Order of the Arrow Ordeal and remained involved in Scouting for many years as an adult. Beginning in 1961, He was employed by Gilbert Associates followed by CNA and The Hartford as Branch Manager before retiring in 1983 to become self employed at Drew Associates as a private detective. This was an adventure that he enjoyed immensely and continued to work his business through his 70’s.

Andy was married to his first wife, Angeline (Scornavacchi) Marrella Sweigart from  April 26, 1962 until their divorce in 1972.

He was a proud and loving father to Annette, wife of Denton Faust, Maidencreek Township. He was preceded in death by a newborn daughter, Anne Therese.

Andy was married to Priscilla Ann Ortner Bagdon from March 3, 1974 until she fell ill with cancer and preceded him in death in October, 1998. 

Andrew was a proud and loving grandfather to Annette and Denton’s children: Daniel Gallaway, husband of Jessica (North Wales PA), Cassie Noele Faust (Berks County), Kaitlyn Alexis Faust (Aurora CO) with whom he shared a birthdate.

 Andy was a loving stepfather to Priscilla’s children: Felicia Bagdon (Reading) and Kelly, husband of Lisa (Pennside). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Alexis, daughter of Kelly and Lisa Bagdon.

Andy is also survived by numerous cousins who will miss him at their Cousins breakfasts.

Andy had a big, huge heart and was always willing to give of himself. We will

miss his laugh, his smile, and his tough yet tender ways. The stars will burn brighter above us but this world will never be quite the same without him.

Cremation Society of Berks County, Inc., Reading is in charge of arrangements. 

A memorial celebration of Andy’s life will be held for family and friends in the summer.
