On Tuesday, October 11th , our beloved Brenda Druck passed peacefully away in her home, surrounded by loved ones, after experiencing complications with her second battle of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in just 20 years.
Brenda’s life is hard to define in just a few paragraphs, as she made her way through hers with so much vibrancy and love. Growing up in Pennsylvania, she worked hard, graduating from Albright University with a BS in Biochemistry. From there, she headed to Chicago where she met her first husband Paul Scofield, and though their lives eventually went separate ways, they always remained committing to raising their daughter, Veronica, together.
In 1994, Brenda found two new loves: the love of teaching, and the man who would become her second and late, husband, Harry E. Druck, Jr. Harry brought with him three more children: Amanda, David, and Daniel. The blended house they built together was lively, loving, and stable – filled with so many memories for each child they raised in it.
In the early 2000s, during Brenda’s first encounter with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, with a determination few would have, she not only went into full remission, but also received her Masters of Science Education during one of many difficult times in her life. During and after recovery, she spent 20 years teaching in the North Carolina Public School System, remaining cancer free until 2022.
In 2017, Brenda made it her mission re-connect with her friends and family in her native Pennsylvania. There she built a wonderful, busy, and happy life. She became a licensed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem for Berks County, helping as many children as possible, and even received the rank of Master in the Usui System of Natural Healing in 2021.
With and without her daughter, she used her time in retirement to travel, having journeyed to Berlin, Montreal, Easter Island, Chile, and Argentina, amongst other exciting locations. Close to home she spent all her days with those she loved, including her mother, brothers, and friends.
Brenda lived a life full of love and no regrets. As she once told her daughter Veronica, “release me in love and joy, keeping me forever in your hearts.”
She is survived by her mother Frances Kurtz, her brothers Robin and Robert, her sister Sandy, her daughters Veronica and Amanda, her sons, David and Daniel, and Grandchildren Layla, Baron, Doug, Savannah, Noah, and Nicholas.
At this time, the family is planning for a private interment in 2022, with a Celebration of Life scheduled closer to the warmer months of 2023. In lieu of gifts or flowers please direct your donations to Casa of Berks County or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Research Fund at Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center.
