Dennis Lee Gaston, OFM, 75, formerly of Wernersville, passed away on December 20, 2023, in his home of natural causes. Dennis was born in Reading on August 31, 1948. He was the son of the late Jack W. Gaston and Anna Marie (Bodanza) Gaston.
After graduating from Conrad Weiser Area High School in 1966, Dennis attended and graduated from Kutztown State College in 1970 with a BS in Art Education. During college, Dennis served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Dennis later earned a Master’s Degree from Kutztown University in1988. Dennis taught art education at Bangor High School in Northampton County for 28 years. Dennis also taught abroad with the Fulbright Teacher Exchange program from 1993 – 95. He also earned a Certificate of Educational Research from Cambridge University, Cambridge, U.K. in 1995. Dennis was also a former member of the Pen Argyl Exchange Club and the Bangor Elks.
Dennis embarked on a second career as a Franciscan Brother with the Order of Friars Minor serving as a Holy Land Missionary working and studying in Jerusalem from 2001 – 2009. Dennis earned a BS in Theology in 2008 from the Studium Theologicum Saliseium and a Master’s of Divinity in 2009 from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Dennis cherished talking of the many years he spent studying, working, and collecting sacred relics from the Holy Land.
Dennis was an active member of the Saint Francis de Sales Parish, Robesonia, where he served as a lector and Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Dennis was a fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a Charter member of the St. Francis de Sales Council 15778.
Dennis is survived by a half-brother, Jack Gaston, Boca Raton, Florida and numerous cousins.
Dennis will be remembered at a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, February12 at 6:00 P.M. at Saint Francis de Sales Parish, N. Church Street Robesonia, followed by a private interment at St. John’s Haines Church Cemetery, Wernersville.
In lieu of flowers, Dennis would be honored by donations to the St. Francis de Sales’ Knights of Columbus Council 15778 Scholarship Program.
