Doreen Craig Simonson

Doreen (Craig) Simonson, 84, passed away September 10th 2020, at her home in Sinking Spring Pennsylvania.

Born May 30, 1936, in Bradford United Kingdom, she was a British subject and naturalized US citizen (Texan).  She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice Craig.

Doreen spent most of her life as the wife of a pastor serving the Methodist Church community.  She travelled to the US on board the Queen Mary where she met her future husband at a church event in Philadelphia. Soon after the birth of their first son they joined the Air Force and she continued to travel extensively as part of a military family and Chaplin’s wife.

She held many jobs over the years including a realtor, salesperson, and administrative assistant in addition to her role in the church, however none brought her more joy than her role of "mother" taking care of her family and helping others. From participating in Methodist church support groups to bellydancing as part of the "whirling dervishes" supporting US troops while stationed in Turkey, her devotion to others was as diverse as her background.  Her conviction that a cup of tea would cure almost anything was surpassed only by her love for her family. The light that she brought to this life will be sorely missed.

She was predeceased by her husband Andrew (May 2020) and survived by children: Paul, fiancé of Margaret Reinhardt; Geoffrey, husband of Jane; and Alexandra Norman wife of Tom. She is also survived by brother Geoff and his wife Elaine, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Services will be private; the family asks that in lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.

Cremation Society of Berks County is handling arrangements.
