On June 17, 2024 the Reverend Harry John Goos was called home to Glory at Reading Hospital in West Reading. He was born August 3, 1939, to the late Rev. Frederick H. and J. Louise (Snook) Goos. He was 84 years old. He is survived by Ruth (Hassler), his wife of 57 years, two daughters, son-in-law, and four grandchildren.
Harry grew up in Philadelphia, attended Bartram High School and Temple University, and received his Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was living at Phoebe Berks Village in Wernersville.
Harry served as a pastor for over 50 years in several local parishes including Christ Yocum’s Church in Grill, Alleghenyville Lutheran Church, St. Marks in Allentown, Holy Trinity in Northampton and Friedens Lutheran Church in Bernville. He just celebrated his 60th year of ordination. He also taught cabinetmaking at Lehigh County Vocational Technical School in the 1970s and established the Northeastern PA Chapter of the Mercedes-Benz Club. He enjoyed all things related to woodworking, automobiles, and trains.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Yocum’s Church, 840 Philadelphia Avenue, Reading, PA 19607 on Friday, July 19 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Christ Yocum’s Church.
