James Jay Brown

James Jay Brown, age 78 of Douglassville, PA, entered eternal rest on May 18, 2024 after spending a day surrounded by his family. James, affectionately known as “Pop” by loved ones, was born on October 23, 1945, in Norristown, PA,, to John James Brown and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Brown (Faulkerson). He was a proud lifelong resident of the area - living in Montgomery County before retiring in Berks County, PA. He was a 1963 graduate of Collegeville-Trappe High School where he became sweethearts with Cynthia Lee Brown, whom he married on New Years Day, 1966. James and Cyndy shared 58 blessed years of marriage and had three children. Along with his wife, James is survived by 3 children: Terrence J. Brown, Tracy L. Douglass (Steven) and Todd E. Brown (Megan). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Connor, Caitlyn, Chelsea, Hunter, Andrew, Acen, Avery and Annaliese; and twin great-grandchildren, Gage and Casen. He is predeceased by his parents and a grandchild, Carter James. James worked tirelessly to provide for his family as a Plumber for over 30 years at the State Correctional Institute at Graterford. After his retirement from the state, he worked for the Borough of Schwenksville. Prior to his career, he received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy in 1969 after earning the National Defense Service and Vietnam Service Medals. James was active in his community and with his children. He proudly volunteered his time with the Schwenksville Fire Company, served as a Boy Scout Leader, coached for Central Perkiomen Little League and was especially active with the Perkiomen Valley High School Marching Band Booster Club, where all three of his children played percussion.  He and Cyndy worshiped together at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Trappe, PA. He frustratingly followed Philadelphia sports and enjoyed competing for years in bowling and horseshoes. After he fully retired, he avidly spent time with Cyndy in their RV traveling to favorite destinations like Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida. He especially enjoyed avoiding the harsh PA winters by retreating in Melbourne, FL with Cyndy. A Celebration of Life gathering with close loved ones will be planned for a later date.
