Mark Richard Lucas passed away on November 18th, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 14, 1955, in Trenton, PA, to his loving parents, Leslie and Dolores Lucas, and his older brother, William F. Lucas. He grew up in Twin Oaks in Levittown, PA, and graduated from Bishop Egan High School in 1973. He spent his youth skiing, riding motorcycles, and traveling cross-country with his best friends.
While up to legendary hijinks working as a janitor at Oxford Valley Mall in Fairless Hills, PA, he caught the attention of a young donut-counter clerk, Patricia Bartol. The two fell in love and, not long after, got married and embarked on the types of lifelong adventures that only two best friends could share including, traveling the world, cruising, camping all over the U.S. in their RV, and spending as much time as possible at their favorite place in the entire world, The Cabin. With the love and support of his wife Pat, Mark went on to accomplish two of his greatest achievements.
First, Mark followed his youthful dream of becoming a pilot; eventually completing flight school, flight training, and getting hired as a commercial pilot. Throughout his nearly 35 years as captain of an MD-80 and then 737 with one of the U.S.’s largest airlines, he flawlessly oversaw the safe travels of thousands of passengers over millions of miles. Captain Lucas happily retired on his 65th birthday in November 2020 with an impeccable flight record and the respect and admiration of his colleagues, friends, and employers.
However, his greatest accomplishment and the one he was most proud of was starting a family with his wife Pat. Together they poured all their love and attention into raising three sons: Matthew, Jeffrey, and Jacob, who went on to start their own families. It was in this new role as grandfather where Mark would embrace his nickname of “Cappy” and continue to provide all his love and support to his grandchildren, who gave him endless pride and joy.
Mark will be known not only for his career, and love of his family, but also for being inherently kind, loving, supportive, fair, and dad jokes aside, humorous to everyone he ever met. He was well known for going out of his way for anyone and everyone who needed help. There is not a person who has met Mark who wouldn’t say he was the best son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend, colleague, pilot, and frequent cheesesteak customer they ever met.
Although we are deeply saddened by his passing and will miss him every single day, that sadness is balanced by the overwhelming joy that we felt for every second of the 70 years we were blessed to spend with him.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Patricia, his sons Matthew (Kelcey), Jeffrey (Sharon), Jacob (Kathleen), his loving grandchildren, Lacey, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Jackson, and Samuel, his loving brother Bill, his brother-in-law and hunting buddy Terry (Linda), and the many special friends he has made along the way.
We love you Cappy and Go Birds! Hoooooooooooooo!
