MaryJane J. Burkert, 80, of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, September 17, 2021, in her residence.

She was the wife of Kenneth G. Burkert, celebrating 58 years of marriage on May 18th.

Born in North Catasauqua on August 7, 1941, MaryJane was the daughter of the late William A. Shafer, Jr and Hilda J. (Reinhard) Shafer.

MaryJane was a 1959 graduate of Catasauqua High School.

MaryJane had worked at the Fleetwood Bank for 30 years, retiring in 2011.

MaryJane was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Fleetwood, where for many years she was active in the Women’s Guild, volunteering for the White Elephant, spaghetti, and potpie dinners.  She also volunteered with the Blue Bird’s while each of her three daughters participated.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Kenneth, brothers Charles and Arlan Shafer, sister Barbara Schlegel, daughters Lori A. Pupo, Wendy J. Comer, and Amy J. Burkert.  Also surviving are grandchildren Brittany N. Comer, Kirsty L. Comer, Robert E. Comer, III, Kelsi L. Comer, Cadence A. Gross, and Trinity A. Gross, and Great-Grandchildren Landon M. MaryJane was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all that knew her, lovingly known by her besties as MJ.

MaryJane was dedicated to her family first and foremost.  She was very proud of her three daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  She loved singing and dancing to Elvis Presley, Patsy Kline, and Kenny Rogers, amongst others. MaryJane enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family, watermelon, knitting, vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland, and clamming in the bay.
