Peggy Jean Rickenbach, age 88, passed away on March 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and caring staff of Penn State Health St Joseph. She was the wife of the late Harry William Rickenbach, Sr who passed in 1988. They met and married in Georgia and moved to Pennsylvania.
Born in a log cabin in Grit, Virginia on September 9, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wilmoth Doss McClelland and the late Jerry Thomas Chumbley. Peggy attended a small schoolhouse in Grit, Virginia. Later in life she completed her GED at Reading Senior High School. She was employed for many years at Pomeroy's and JCPenney in the houseware department. She then became a bank teller and retired from CoreStates Bank. She loved telling stories from her childhood. She loved cooking, sharing recipes and crocheting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and her beloved poodles, especially her late Rosie and Josie. She had a huge heart and always put others first.
Left to treasure her memory are daughter Ellen Lorie DiSanto (husband Jeffrey), sister Darlene Robertson (husband Billy) of Lynch Station, Virginia, grandsons Steven DiSanto, Matthew DiSanto (Kaitlynn Frayer), Bruce Hill, Jr (wife Lisa), Michael Hill, Anthony Rickenbach (Carrie), Harry Rickenbach, III, Timothy Mark Rickenbach, Adam Rickenbach (Jessica), granddaughter Teresa, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, niece Lynn Robertson Copes (Earl), great nieces ElizaAnne Copes and Lillian Copes and many other nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded by son Harry William Rickenbach, Jr, daughter Jeannie Marie Hill, sister Edith Cox, brother Leonard Chumbley, grandson Timothy Wayne Rickenbach and great grandson Aaron Rickenbach.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday April 1, 2023 at 3pm at Schwarzwald UCC Church, 75 Church Lane Road Reading, Pa 19606. Fellowship in the church social hall will follow the service. Peggy will be taken home and laid to rest next to her dear mother at Mount Herman Cemetery in Lynch Station, Virginia at a future time.
