Penny Shollenberger Obituary

Penny Diane (Geist) Shollenberger, 66, of Mohrsville, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. Penny was the wife of Jeffrey A. Shollenberger, with whom she enjoyed 46 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband Jeff, Penny is survived by three children: Ashley Shollenberger; Justin Shollenberger, partner of Kristen Bortz; Amber Messersmith, wife of Steven Messersmith, Jr.; and three grandchildren: Andrés, Jaylie and Jordan Shollenberger. She is also survived by two brothers and their families: Daryl Geist, husband of Lynn and father of Holden, Drew and Ciara; and Daniel Geist, husband of Lisa and father of Heather and Jacob. Penny is preceded in death by her third brother Dale Geist and her mother Mildred.

Penny was born in Lebanon, PA and graduated from Wilson High School in 1974. Penny knew she wanted to be a nurse from the time she was a little girl. She studied nursing through the LPN Practical Nursing Program at the Reading-Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center, graduating and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1975. Penny was an efficient, caring and professional nurse. Her fellow nurses and doctors respected and appreciated Penny’s meticulous attention to detail, and her patients were grateful for her steadfast commitment to their care.

Penny had grit and dedication in spades – she encouraged her children to be independent thinkers, and she was admired by her friends for her determined spirit. She fiercely battled breast and then ovarian cancer.  Penny will be remembered for her strength, beauty and devotion to her friends and family. In line with her wishes, there will be no formal service for Penny.
