Rex Smith Obituary

Rex Woodland Smith

Born- January 17, 1957

Passed – June 10, 2022

Rex was born January 17, 1957 in Audubon New Jersey. The son of Stanley K Smith Jr and Reva Blanche Woodland Smith. In 1960 his family moved to the Reading area and he grew up in College Heights section of the city. Graduating Reading High School in 1975, he worked several jobs over the years starting at Pizza Italia as a teenager. He moved on to be a manager at Boscov’s and then ran the All Appliance Parts store in the Antietam shopping center until he started his own business in 1991 doing appliance and refrigeration repair. I’m not sure if there’s a bar, restaurant or house in Berks County that he didn’t fix something in over the last 30 years. He loved his job and when asked when he is going to retire his response always was “when I’m buried in the ground”. He lived up that as his phone rang non-stop with people looking for advice on how to fix things long after his body stopped him from going out and doing it himself. He loved to ride motorcycles and made many lifelong friends going to rallies across the country. He also loved cigars and would never turn down a chance to smoke one and hang out. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 62, Cigar Lodge, Rajah Shrine, Reading Company Boosters, Reading Motorcycle Club and Northmont Fellowship Association. He is survived by his son Jeremy Smith (husband of Sharon Smith), brothers Stanley K Smith III (husband of Michelle Wheatley Smith), Dave Smith, sister L Debbie Greusel (wife of Walt Greusel), Grandchildren Elijah Mergner and Elle Smith, along with numerous nieces and nephews A celebration of life will be held Wednesday June 15th , 2022 from 5pm to 8pm at 20 N 3 rd St in Reading with a Masonic Funeral service taking place at 6:30. All are welcome
