Richard Rocktashel Jr. Obituary

Richard John Rocktashel, Jr., 61, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2022, in the Reading Hospital with his sisters by his side, after battling long term illnesses.

A lifelong resident of Berks County, Rick graduated from Wilson High School, in 1979, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1983, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. Rick then worked in Quality Control at Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric Reading Works and AT&T Technologies), until 2001. After retiring from engineering, he occupied himself in the transportation industry.

Prior to his health declining, he loved boating at Blue Marsh Lake, where he worked over his summers during college. He also loved the beach, spending time there recently with his sister, Sue and niece, Emily.

Rick had a mind for technology and loved math and science fiction. He was a generous uncle to his nieces and nephew and kept close his family memorabilia. Rick had a witty sense of humor, making jokes with his surrounding loved ones until the end.

The family is grateful for the support from Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heiser - their contributions to Rick’s care and safety will never be forgotten.

Born in New Jersey, Rick was predeceased by his parents, Richard J. Rocktashel and Ethel M. (Bradshaw) Rocktashel, as well as his sister Marie Rocktashel Watson. He is survived by his sisters; Anne Rocktashel, Fairfax, VA and Susan (Rocktashel) Schiavo, Sinking Spring, the latter of whom took great care of him throughout his illnesses. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Nicole (Lecatsas) Hafer (Bobby), West Lawn, Nick Lecatsas, Kutztown and Emily Schiavo, Sinking Spring.

A memorial celebration will be held at a later time at the convenience of family. The family welcomes contributions to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org. Online condolences may be recorded at www.berkscremations.com.
