Ronald Tobias Obituary

Ronald Leon Tobias

September 9, 1943 - July 31, 2024

Ronald L. Tobias was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to Barbara Ruth (Deeds) Tobias and Samuel Benjamin Tobias. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Ralph Evan Tobias and his sister, Ruth Dolores (Tobias) Roeder; all are survived by their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ronald is survived by his two children, Tiffinie (Tobias) Hettinger and Jason Tobias, along with their spouses and his two grandchildren.

Ronald was known by many nicknames, Ronnie, Uncle Ron, Uncle Ronnie, and of course, Dad and Pop. He is fondly known for being a trickster who loved playing practical jokes on his closest friends and family. His children affectionately remember him waking them up for breakfast by playing The Beatles “Good Morning” song at full volume while cooking breakfast on his favorite griddle.

Ron was known to bring a sci-fi or fantasy book to every family event so he could read and observe the people he loved, including his nieces and nephews. Though quiet and introverted on occasion, he loved to laugh and enjoyed the smiling faces of friends and family that surrounded him. He was also known to get into shenanigans during his youth including demolition derbies.

Ron was passionate about computers and enjoyed building them for his family. He was known to enjoy his Commodore 64 and his later PCs. He was a self-taught engineer, mechanic, and tinkerer at heart. His lifelong passion for reading books was never-ending and parallels a quote from his favorite book; “No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away—until the clock he wound winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone's life…is only the core of their actual existence.”  - Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ron was laid to rest August 9th, 2024 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. He preferred a quiet send-off instead of services, but family and friends are encouraged to visit him, as well as view his memorial page online through the Veterans Legacy Memorial at Ronald Leon Tobias' memorial page - Honor Veterans Legacies at VLM (va.gov)
