Ruth Ann Hickman Kershaw, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and mother passed away on August 6,
2021 in the company of her family. Born on April 30, 1957, in Ithaca, NY Ruth Ann graduated from
Newfield High School and then went on to Cornell University where she graduated with a degree in
Public Relations and Plant Pathology. She was employed for many years by ENECON as an accomplished
member of their sales team. Anyone who knows Ruth Ann knows that her real passion in life was
horses. She was a skilled horse breeder and many of her KWPN foals are highly successful in both the
hunter and dressage show classes. Ruth Ann’s passion for animals was evident each day as she would
rescue any creature that needed a home.
Ruth Ann loved her farm, her horses and her gardens. Her flower gardens are legendary and have
always been a source of pride. Whether iris, phlox or day lilies, the colors and varieties brightened her
landscapes daily.
Ruth Ann is survived by her son Carson Kershaw (Cheyney, PA). Her mother, Phyllis Hickman
(Trumansburg, NY) and preceded in death by her father Donald Hickman (Ithaca, NY). She is survived by
siblings David (Patti) Hickman, Susan (Stephen) Hickman-Anderson, Julie (Omar) Hickman-Godoy and
Mary Ellen Hickman. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews which she enjoyed
immensely Kathi, Michael, Elisa, Alexander, Lucas and Jacob.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the wonderful care she received by the
staff at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Reading, PA. The care and compassion showed to Ruth Ann in her time
of illness was extraordinary.
The family will celebrate Ruth Ann’s life in private. Those wishing to remember Ruth Ann, may donate in
